Stewardship Campaign

Recent Patterns of Giving - 80 people contribute to our Planned Giving Scheme.

Number  Amounts per week

39          Up to £5

16          Â£5.01 - £10

22          Â£10.01 - £25

3            Over £25

The giving of those not in the Planned Giving scheme is bound to be less - for a start there is no tax refund and generally we only give when we come to church.  Yet the costs of running our church are the same whether we are there or not.

The Barn and the Future

The Barn Church has stood as a centre of worship and of service to the community for 85 years.  It is our spiritual home and we are proud to be members of this family today.

The Barn has had a lively past - it should have an exciting future, BUT.... that future is in OUR hands.  As far as the maintenance of the work, ministry and mission of The Barn is concerned, as members of this family...

What We Can Do

Obviously it is not just a case of everyone giving an extra £6 a week - that would be unfair as some of us could not manage an extra £6, while others could manage more.

The Scriptures teach the principle of PROPORTIONATE GIVING - giving a percentage of our income: so much for each £1 of our disposable income, e.g.  2p per £  or  3p per £

The General Synod urges us to aim at a basic standard of 5p per £ - that is 5%.

Steps to Take

  • REVIEW our giving.  How much do we give now as a percentage of our income? Can we increase it by 1p, or 2p in the £?

  • JOIN the Planned Giving Scheme set up a standing order or take a set of envelopes and so contribute on a regular basis whether we are in church or not.

  • LET The Barn recover tax paid.  If we pay income tax, the Inland Revenue will REFUND to the church the tax we have already paid: 25p for each £ we give at no extra cost to ourselves!

What We Give…

...is a matter between ourselves and God.  What he expects of us is that we should each shoulder our responsibility as a member of the family of The Barn Church to the best of our ability.

To Summarise…

  • We have a CHALLENGE - our expenditure exceeds our income by £310 each week.

  • The Barn has a fine past.  It should also have an exciting future.

  • As member of the Family of The Barn Church we have to decide whether we are going to limp along from year to year or whether we are going to set our church on a firm basis for the future.

  • The matter is in our hands.  Let us consider carefully and prayerfully the response we should make.
